What’s the story behind this fabulous watch? Why has the value increased like hell last years while it wasn’t a bang at all when it was first launched? Keep on reading to get to know more about the much sought after Omega Speedmaster ‘Tintin’!

At the very beginning, back in 2013, the watch was not very known at all. It was hardly known and bought by early Speedmaster collectors and enthusiasts. Fratello watches was one of the first (or the first?) to call it the Omega Speedmaster ‘Tintin’, instead of a Racing watch, thanks to the white and red checkered minute track (https://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-true-story-about-the-new-speedmaster-racing/).

While only around 1500-2000 (no one knows the exact number) watches were made, ADs had a lot of difficulties to sell them all. It was so bad that they were forced to provide discounts which made the prices drop from 3.500 EUR to below 3.000 EUR (!). Can you imagine this? As sales went terrible, they stopped the production after only about two and a half year, back in 2016.

Omega later explained that the watch was never meant to be a ‘Racing’ dial. The dial was designed to honour our compatriot Hergé and the famous rocket which is linked to Tintin’s ‘Explorers on the Moon’ and ‘Destination Moon’.

Back in 2017 prices begun to rise. First to about 4.000 EUR, then 7-8.000 EUR and eventually over 15.000 EUR in 2021. But how did this happen? And is it worth it?

It is quite normal prices have been increasing due to the fact that the production was very limited in time and number. But there are other references which are even more limited and yet not so valuable. So what’s so special about this one?

It’s the story behind it. There’s a lot of mistery about why Omega did never succeed to realise an official partnership between both brands. Fratello watches was even contacted wtih a legal letter by Hergé’s ‘protectors’ in 2013, because they didn’t want to be linked to this watch. After some unsuccesful attemps tp realise an official collaboration with Tintin, Omega still decided to create a dial which could easily be linked to the famous comic books and they later even admitted it was linked to the cartoon character.

No one knowns exactly how many of them were made and sold (which makes it even more mysterious), but all collectors do know that there are not enough pieces for everyone of us. As such, we are pleased to be able to sell one of those unique pieces which belongs to a private collector within our network! The watch is untouched (never polished and the Omega Quality Check seal is still aplied to the case back) and comes with a full set.

  • Omega inner- and outer box (and even the original packaging)

  • Omega Manual

  • Omega tag

  • Omega card holder

  • Omega pouch with extra links

  • Papers (International Warranty card & Pictograms)

The Pictograms- and Warranty Card are both unique cards which can help identify your watch. They mention a serial number, which is also placed on the caliber itself and on one lug, in order to make a matching between the documents and the watch possible.

The watch is in very mint condition (90%), is still untouched, was checked by our own watchmaker and comes with a one-year warranty.
